Workshops
1. Care for Caregivers
This 4-hour workshop in two parts will offer an opportunity for caregivers to assess their well-being and determine areas of needs – physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, social, and creative. In Part 1, attendees will complete a needs assessment and set up short-term and long-term self-care plans based upon their needs. Part 2 of the workshop will provide follow-up as attendees reflect on the implementation of their plans and make appropriate revisions.
2. Living and Growing through Loss
This 6-hour workshop will be divided into four parts.
Part 1 will give attendees the opportunity to reflect upon the highs and lows of their life journeys as they develop an autobiographical timeline where celebratory events and losses are graphed. Attendees will be encouraged to create a means to express their significant joys and painful losses in their lives and share their creative expressions with others in the workshop.
Part 2 will help attendees understand the emotional/physical/spiritual impact of losses in life. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross’s work with grief stages will be referenced. Attendees will be encouraged to reflect upon their life losses and identify which, of any, may still be affecting them.
In Part 3 attendees will learn several ideas of dealing with unresolved losses causing emotional/spiritual/physical dis-ease and select one or more strategies to use in their situations.
Part 4 will provide attendees with an opportunity to reflect upon their loss work and express their progress through a creative medium which they can choose to share in a small or large group setting. The workshop will end with a celebration of spiritual growth.
3. Journey from the Shadows
This 3-hour workshop is designed for those who have been diagnosed with a terminal, life-threatening, or chronic illness and their supporters. In Part 1, attendees will explore the normal expressions of anticipatory grief including denial, anger, bargaining, depression, surrender, acceptance and peace.
